If you are environment conscious ,but do not wish to  give up your favorite Range Rover ,then take a look at UK based startup Liberty Electric Cars. This enterprise plans to invest £30 million in a business that will initially re-engineer conventional vehicles to convert them into all electric cars. Currently Liberty buys new rovers and minis and replace them with an electric engine to get a zero emission vehicle costing a royal £95,000 to £125,000 per vehicle. However plans are afoot to source empty "Rovers" to be fitted with electric engines to bring down the cost.

This is an interesting approach to produce low emission vehicles.CEO Barry Shrier further says that even if the battery used in these cars is recharged using fossil fuel powered plants, the emissions from such cars would be a third of conventional vehicles. This however is not clear whether we are just trading tail pipe car emissions to more coal/fossil fuels.

I am a little bit sceptic about that… I have watched the electrical cars scene for a couple of years now, And there have been many companies with big promises. I really wonder how they want to be able to move a heavy Land Rover 200miles while others have difficulty doing the same with ultra lightweighted small vehicles…

Michaels last blog post..New Space Telescope

I have reservations regarding the proposed vehicle too…..however the company claims all its orders for 2008 have been sold out….and additionally their tech team is also planning something of a range enhancer that would allow vehicle to travel even in absence of battery charge…seems to me that they know what they are planning! but again its too early to predict how the modified Rovers will perform….
