After reading your article, I purchased a generator and set of blades from windynation.com . Building the generator was a lot of fun and now I make my own power!

This sounds like a great project to start working on! I've never been that practically minded, so this would probably be quite difficult for me, but I'd definitely learn a lot and get some cheaper energy too!

I wonder what is more cost-efficient: wind or solar. I think wind generators are cheaper to build (or buy). Of course it needs wind, but can it do better than a solar panel ? For a long time I've been interested in solar panels and waiting for technology improvements to make it cheaper for a DIY project. But more and more, I wonder if we should concentrate more on wind, rather than solar.

I've been into alternate energy for quite some time, but I didn't know building your own was that doable.I'll be looking into it for a cabin I'm going to be building soon-off-grid-is-smart!

Thanks for the advice. It was so funny to see everyone around here go scrambling back to their huge cars when the gas prices started to fall. It's like no one thinks that energy costs will ever go back up.

My husband would love this, though not sure how much he would enjoy actually building it! It would be fun to do just to see our neighbor's reactions!
