2010 Green Energy Trends
There are some interesting alternative energy technologies being developed by private and public companies that may come to the forefront in 2010. There is a great article over at Business Week, highlighting 25 clean energy startups looking to change the way we live our lives for a cleaner environment and better future for generations to come.
Here are a few examples:
Achates Power: currently testing and plans to license to automakers a clean burning diesel engine that boost MPG to 100MPG
Alta Rock Energy: a geothermal energy startup counts Google as an investor claims it can tap into geothermal energy just about anywhere by boring miles into the earth. There are earthquake concerns though.
BioFuelBox: one man’s sewage is another man’s treasure .. er fuel. This company picks up sewage from industrial sites and refines it right there on the truck, converting it to odorless diesel fuel. Very cool.
Bridgelux: An LED lighting startup that is on track to develop lighting comparable to a 60 watt lightbulb for under 10 bucks that emits uses a fraction of the energy and lasts for years. Here’s a nice article covering the lighting revolution. The LED lights coming to market that emulate a 60 watt bulb are closer to $40 now so this seems a few years away.
BrightSource Energy: another Google invested company that’s using many mirrors to better capture the sun’s energy. The company already has contracts with Southern California Edison and Pacific Gas & Electric. Some believe this may be one of a handful of alternative energy IPO’s to hit the market soon.
